‘Doctor Who’ season 8 scripts leak, BBC (and us) beg to keep spoilers under wraps

The latest -The BBC is a very different sort of organization than most. While many networks will just throw up their hands in frustration when something unwanted comes out in the press, they try to make an active effort in order to ensure that nobody ruins the fun of “Doctor Who” for everyone when things get out that are not intended to be out.

In a new statement, BBC Worldwide this week addressed the rumors that some script material made it online, and did so in the typical sort of classy way that they do. First of all, they acknowledge the tireless work by cast and crew members to try and keep things a surprise, and then they implore fans to not spoil the fun for everyone. This is similar to what the network did in the past when material was leaked to the internet, and fans have been pretty kind in obliging most of the time.

Now, take a look at that statement:

“BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who series eight where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public. We deeply regret this and apologize to all the show’s fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series,” BBC said in a statement. “We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches. We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty.”

“Doctor Who” season 8 is not premiering until next month, so any details getting out now would be somewhat damaging. Note that we’re not going to discuss any of that here, or any real spoilers / photos unless they are put out by the BBC itself. Sometimes, it’s better to have a little bit of an element of surprise. Nobody wants to see the fun deflated for no good reason.
