NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 7: Adam Levine, David Letterman, and the Maroon 5 mystery

Adam Levine -To us, there are few things as entertaining in late-night television as a David Letterman interview. He has this character of the clueless interviewing buffoon down to such a level that he can step into it in a blink of an eye, and can make guests so uncomfortable at times that they admit things that they never imagined admitting to before agreeing to go on the show.

Luckily for Adam Levine, he managed to keep himself from folding under the pressure while speaking to Letterman this week promote his band Maroon 5’s new music. Letterman was desperate to uncover the secret behind the name, and he tried almost everything to get him to spill the beans.

Instead of getting that answer, though, we instead had some further information about how Levine has told nobody outside of the band about the origins of the name other than Billy Joel, who was a musical hero of his who once prodded him about the name at a restaurant. He was caught so off-guard by the request that he told him, and he said that Joel looked almost disappointed with the result.

In the end, the reason why “The Voice” coach seems to be making this such a secret is out of fear … mostly the fear that everyone realizes how terribly boring the origins of the name are, since the story that they have concocted here is a million times cooler. Somewhere, this entire dialogue between Dave and Adam is probably going to drive a fan crazy, and that makes us love it even more.

Adam is currently in the process of finishing blind auditions for the upcoming seventh season of the NBC show, and you can click here to see the first promo featuring new judges Gwen Stefani and Pharrell.
