‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winners Collabro sign with Syco Records, working on debut album

More news -How about this for a quick turnaround time? Even though vocal group Collabro was just named the winners of “Britain’s Got Talent” this past weekend, the group has just been signed to Syco Records and will have their debut out on … July 14? Seriously? That is basically just a month from today, which has to be one of the quickest lead times that we have ever heard about.

How in the world can the group be prepared for that? Our guess is that Simon Cowell and the team at the label have presented them with around 30 or 40 covers to choose from that are within their classical / musical theater wheelhouse, and they will choose ten or so for the disc, with them recording a track or so every day until the album is complete. There is not enough time in here, after all, for them to work with a team of writers on anything.

We do understand the motivation here from a business point of view, at least in that Simon knows that there is not much of a shelf life for a winner of this show. They are going to have to get something out before the start of “The X Factor,” and then see if they can maintain an audience after that. The biggest challenge for the group will come a year from now, when there is another “next big thing” that shows up on a reality TV show that others want to throw their money into.

The two biggest contestants from the show to date are both singers in Susan Boyle and Paul Potts, and they both did manage to get an album out at some point within their first year following the show.
