‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4: First look at pair of new characters

With “Hell on Wheels” season 4 in production right now, there are a few opportunities that we have right now to sneak a peek at the show behind the curtain; this time around, they are coming in the form of some pictures from executive producer John Wirth highlighting some of the newest additions to the cast.

The images here were posted on Wirth’s Twitter, and they start with Jake Weber. As you may remember from earlier this spring, Weber (of “Medium” fame is the newest series regular for the show as Harlan Fell, the Chief Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. This part proves to you that locomotives are still going to remain an enormous part of this season, even with Cullen Bohannon currently off away from them in forced exile.

As for the other new photo, this is of Jonathan Scarfe, who as reported will be playing a former contact of Bohannon’s from the war. This role is a little more shrouded in mystery, but he certainly looks intimidating enough based on this photo. Maybe he’ll be involved in an extraction mission? That’s at least relatively high on our own wish-list.

The new season of “Hell on Wheels” will premiere August 2 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, so we’ll have plenty of time to scoop future episodes and events before then. This looks at least on the surface to be another exciting season, and it already has a built-in advantage of being something different than the majority of television. Westerns are not the most-popular genre these days, so anything that even resembles one often has a difficult time.
