‘CSI’ season 15 loses one showrunner as Carol Mendelsohn steps down

At this point in the run of “CSI,” this is not the sort of show that traditionally gets a whole lot of buzz anymore. It is a procedural for one, and with the cast turnover being what it is, we wouldn’t say that there is a single person that has the same beloved following as someone like Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: SVU.”

With all of this being said, there are occasionally moments that still manage to draw headlines related to the show. This time, it is the departure of co-showrunner Carol Mendelsohn after being a part of the show since the very beginning. She will continue to be credited as an executive producer, and her fellow showrunner Don McGill will be going it alone the rest of the way.

In a new statement (per The Hollywood Reporter), Mendelsohn had the following to

“It’s been a long and amazing journey and I am so proud of CSI‘s continued success. In handing over the helm to my dear friend and partner, Don McGill, I know he and our CSI team will carry on brilliantly what we’ve all created together. CSI, its cast and crew, writers and directors, will always be my family. I have learned so much from each and every one of them. About writing, producing and life. For that, and so much more, I am forever grateful.”

While the drama, which is the longest-running scripted show on CBS, is in its 15th season, we are admittedly worried about it thanks to the move over to Sunday nights at 10:00 p.m. this season. This is a time that caused fits for “The Mentalist,” and it could do the same here.

Interesting fact: Two years ago, “CSI” was the most-watched drama in the entire world.
