‘Saturday Night Live’: Emilia Clarke, Norman Reedus, Donald Glover, and more dream hosts

SNL -Every year around this time, we like to sit down and ask ourselves one simple question when it comes to “Saturday Night Live“: Who do we want to see hosting the show next season? There are always a couple of names that pop up that make you raise an eyebrow, and the interesting thing here is that there are still dozens of people out there you would love to see on the show who have never taken on the gig.

The major criteria that we’re going for here is that we want people with TV connections, and (with one exception) people who have never hosted before. Outside of that, it’s time to let the imagination run wild (but hopefully not so wild that we turn into one of those “SNL” characters we groan at every time we see).

Emilia Clarke – Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau have both made cameo appearances since “Game of Thrones” began, but how about a host for a change? Emilia seems perfect, given that she has live performing experience already and is one of the show’s biggest names.

Stephen Colbert – He probably needs to make this happen before hosting “The Late Show,” but we’re still wondering why this hasn’t happened sooner.

Donald Glover – He’s done standup, he’s done sketch, he’s done scripted TV, and he’s a rapper. Donald has literally done everything that you could possibly need to be a good host or musical guest on the show.

Chelsea Handler – Her daytime show is ending, and given that “SNL” has spoofed her before with “Helga Lately,” it seems like a pretty natural fit.

Mindy Kaling – She has a funny comedy on TV right now, and at one point “SNL” was one of her lifelong dreams. She already knows most of the people well and has guest-written there before, so it makes sense.

Eddie Murphy – We are well aware that it is probably never going to happen, but we’ll continue to dream about it for as long as we can. This is the one exception to the “never hosted before” rule, since he took this role all the way back in 1984.

Aubrey Plaza – We want this just to see what sort of characters Aubrey would inject some of her delivery onto. Also, we feel like she may have a friend who can put in a call to Lorne Michaels on her behalf…

Norman Reedus – He already lives in New York, and it feels inevitable that there should be a “Walking Dead” star hosting “SNL” someday. With all the possible Daryl spoofs, we could find quite a few opportunities for laughs in here.

Blake Shelton – We will probably continue to advocate this one as long as possible, mostly because it would either be intentionally hilarious, or an unintentional trackwreck. We’re not a country music fan, but Blake has still managed to become one of our favorite people ever.

Allison Williams – Lena Dunham did a solid job as host, so why not recruit one of her co-stars? Allison can rope in her dad for a cameo, and she’s got a nice singing voice. Plus, we’d guess she would love to be silly given the amount of work it sometimes takes to play Marnie.
