2014 Emmys: Seth Meyers set to host awards show for NBC

NBC -Remember the last time NBC had the Emmys? They brought on as host a relative newcomer to the late-night world in Jimmy Fallon to emcee the gig, and he scored rave reviews for his “Glee”-inspired opening and other funny bits during the show itself.

So for the 2014 edition of the show, it’s hard to really be shocked by the following announcement: Seth Meyers is now getting ready to pick up the mic. Sources are saying that the new “Late Night” host is going to be the host for the show  on Monday, August 25. Yes, the show is airing on Monday. That was not a bad dream when you first heard that. For some reason, NBC is more concerned about causing a problem in NFL preseason than they are about doing anything to anger the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In a statement announcing the oh-so predictable news, NBC’s president of late-night / alternative programming Paul Telegdy of course touted this news as the greatest thing ever. He also confirmed that Don Mischer will executive-produce the ceremony:

“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys … Plus, with Don’s vast experience at putting these type of big productions together, we’ll be in great hands.”

Seth has previously hosted the ESPYs, and therefore at least has the knowledge as to how to pull this off this sort of gig already. (Don’t forget his amazing job at the White House Correspondents Dinner.) While he can at times come off as a little aloof, he also will not be afraid of going after the stars … which we always appreciate.
