‘American Idol XIII’ top 6 song spoilers: What Jena Irene, CJ Harris, Sam Woolf will perform
“American Idol XIII” has had a string of pretty interesting theme weeks, and with that, there were times we rolled our eyes thinking about production making contestants perform from a songbook of rock and country hits.
But, we actually fee a little better about the list that is out there than we thought we would. There are a few predictable choices and one or two that will probably be awful, but there are some in here that could be awesome. In particular, we feel like Jessica Meuse is poised to have a major comeback week after landing in the bottom two.
All of these choices come from an article first posted by TVLine:
Jena Irene – Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” and Heart’s “Barracuda.” A great rock song, and a not-so great country song. She’s really going to have to work to make that sound interesting for her voice.
Sam Woolf – Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One I Want” and Imagine Dragons’ “It’s Time.” We like both of the songs Sam picked, so it’s just all about whether he can deliver the emotion of the first one and the passion of the second.
Jessica Meuse – Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love.” The latter is an unexpected but inspired choice, while the former has the potential to be a huge moment on the show. It suits her almost perfectly!
Alex Preston – Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind” and Neon Trees’ “Animal.” “Animal” is a song we saw coming a mile away; the other choice is so much more interesting, and could in turn be special since it’s not necessarily a country-only song.
CJ Harris – Zac Brown Band’s “Whatever It Is” and The Guess Who’s “American Woman.” An okay choice and a terrible choice. Do people who sing the latter song even know what it is actually about?
Caleb Johnson – Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It” and the Black Keys’ “Sting Me.” Hate the first song and love the second. We wish Caleb was singing this sort of modern rock all season long.
