‘Sherlock’ season 4: About those Tom Hiddleston ‘rumors’

Sherlock season 3Do you see, internet? This is what happens when you start speculating about a new season of “Sherlock” a little too early. Rumors get started that are not even remotely true, and then you have to play your own version of internet Sherlock Holmes in order to separate most of the fact from fiction.

This time around, we’re clearly talking about fiction with the sudden “rumors” that Tom Hiddleston could be cast in the upcoming fourth season. There are some sites out there that are really reporting this as something that could genuinely happen, and we suppose that it is possible, there are about a thousand or so known things in the universe that are a little bit more likely to happen.

The gossip about the “Thor” actor appearing on the show started up at a Q&A with show co-creator Mark Gatiss in Brazil, where he said “I’ll ask him” following a question about whether such a casting could happen. The part of this Q&A that is missing from many reports is that Gatiss was answering in good humor, and after saying that he believes that he mostly does movies at this point.

The one thing that you have to remember right now is that it’s hard to believe any casting rumor that is out there without scripts. Nobody has even seen a script yet, and Steven Moffat is busy working on “Doctor Who.” Once some of those start to be produced, then the castings can happen; personally, though, we much prefer a show like this to cast some more-unknown performers compared to someone like Tom, who is already extremely well-known and cannot hide as easily in a role.

Are there any actors out there who you would genuinely like to see in a future “Sherlock” season? Share below, and head over here if you want to get even more great TV updates from us via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
