‘The Blacklist’ spoilers: Ryan Eggold on key Liz – Tom finale question

The season finale of “The Blacklist” is quickly approaching, and you know that there will be many a crazy thing that unfolds there. We don’t need to know every secret that the show is hiding for the time being, but we need at least a couple of answers to make things a little easier to understand.

What’s one of these? Trying to figure out what in the world is going on with Liz and Tom’s relationship. We know that he is a mission, and that he has to morph into evil mode at times (which means taking off the hipster glasses) in order to make that happen. The larger question that we have at the moment, though, is something that Ryan Eggold himself ponders in a new E! News interview:

“I still think there’s a great deal of ambiguity to Tom because the question is does he love her? That’s a question I don’t think we’ve tackled yet that we start get into in the final episodes of season.”

If we were to play relationship therapist for these two characters right now, we would say that there is probably at least a little bit of love here … but the question is just how much. Tom has been around her for years, and over that time, he may have formed some feelings. It would be hard to fake that relationship for as long as he has otherwise, and there are not too many times in which he has been forced to flick that “bad” switch and go into his mission.
