‘Agents of SHIELD’ spoilers: First look at Cobie Smulders’ return

It’s Robin Sparkles, y’all … or not. As much as we’d love to shout that so that “How I Met Your Mother” was still on the air and that terrible ending never happened, we won’t get that opportunity.

Instead, we are writing about Cobie Smulders returning to Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” for the upcoming April 29 episode, where Maria Hill is going to look for help from Agent Coulson on what is a pretty dire situation for what is left at SHIELD following the events of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Hill was there to experience some of it, and she brings that experience to the cast here.

From a story perspective, we’re psyched to have Cobie back, given that it gives the show yet another limb when it comes to great Marvel mythology. We do also wonder at the same time how in the world this woman has gotten any sleep over the past year. She filmed the “Captain America” movie, 24 episodes of “How I Met Your Mother,” and now an episode of this. Also, factor in that she is married to Taran Killam (who spends most of his time on a separate coast thanks to “Saturday Night Live“), and the two are also parents. At least maybe she is going to get a little bit of a break now, given that she is not attached to a new TV pilot. She also is not planning to take a full-time job, at least per reports, on “Agents of SHIELD” in the near future. That does not mean that she will stay away from the show altogether, though. We’d be stunned if there is not at least one or two guest spots from her in the inevitable second season.
