‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 video: Series bosses go through Purple Wedding

Joffrey -Before we dive deeper into this particular “Game of Thrones” article, here is the obligatory warning that there are major spoilers ahead. Stop reading now if you haven’t watched Sunday’s episode.

If you are still here, then the video below should be of great delight to you. It is, after all, one of your biggest opportunities to date to see what precisely the show’s creative team thought about the sudden death of Joffrey during what is now known as the Purple Wedding. This was obviously a big shocker to everyone who has not read the books, and it was a tremendous challenge for the director Alex Graves to shoot.

One of the more interesting facets of it? Having the opportunity to see so many characters in the same place. There have not been that many opportunities over the years for us to see such a congregation in King’s Landing. Even when there are so many gravitating around the city, they are rarely ever in the same place. This is why you had a chance to enjoy such things as a conversation between Oberyn Martell and Cersei Lannister, or also Sansa Stark and Lady Olenna.

In the end, though, this was largely about saying goodbye to the character of Joffrey, who will be missed by many just because he was so evil. It takes real talent to be able to loathe someone on the same level that he was, and credit therefore has to be given to Jack Gleeson. If his performance was anything other than amazing as this character, odds are we would not have so many strong reactions to his character all over the internet.

While the promo for the next new episode of the show in particular doesn’t really do too much to tease the immediate road ahead when it comes to King’s Landing, but you have to believe that many questions are going to form in regards to a line of succession. Margaery is technically Queen now … right? She may need to find a new husband in order to shore things up further, but it feels like the list of suitable candidates is pretty slim.
