‘Call the Midwife’ season 3, episode 4 preview (PBS): A major Jessica Raine episode
For most of “Call the Midwife” season 3, one of our biggest complains has been that the story feels a little too much like a procedural “Grey’s Anatomy.” While there have been a few stories here and there that carry over from week too week, too often we have devoted more of our time to seeing what is going on with a guest star, who is going to flutter through and never be seen or heard from again.
But for at least part of next week’s episode, you can expect to see things to change. This is by far the most important episode of season 3 to date, and without spoiling much, it’s one that you really need to watch live. By the end of it, your jaw may even be on the floor. It will shape the entire season for at least one character, and maybe even the series.
On a different note, Jessica Raine probably gives her finest performance of the entire series as you get to see more and more of what it meant to be a young woman in that time, trying to be independent but also occasionally giving into the pressures that come along with that era and what society thinks about you. This may be where “Call the Midwife” is at its best, and in giving us something a little more serialized, the show’s heart will be in the right place for maybe the first time all season long.
What do you want to see on “Call the Midwife” next week,” and are you happy for a show that will have a more serialized feel? Share below.

I agree with this post. This series is the weakest one so far overall, but the next episode ranks as possibly the best out of three series (the final one is excellent too). Jessica Raine gives possibly the most moving and true performance seen by anyone so far. Judy Parfit is amazing in every episode.
