‘The Good Wife’ season 5, episode 17 preview: Diane makes her move

“The Good Wife” may be a couple of episodes removed now from the super-shocking death of Will Gardner, but his memory still looms large over Sunday night’s new episode. The title for this one is “A Material World,” and based on the first-look video of it below, there is going to be quite a bit of ground for the story to cover.

While Alicia will have her own share of messes and problems to clean up, Diane is taking a step that we never would have imagined during the first eight or so episodes of the season: Finding a way to bring Florrick / Argos back into the fold if at all possible. Is it a risky endeavor? By all means it is, but she is smart enough to know that if she somehow manages to pull this off, it will be an incredible victory for her firm in her eyes. It feels like, based on at least this clip, that there is almost no move that can be made that will not bed met with something other than a mixed reaction.

We still believe that not only is Diane making the right move for her, but she is making the best move with us as viewers in mind. There is little more that we want beyond a great opportunity to see all the characters together again, and getting Alicia and Cary back over there may help them all professionally, help us to see more great scenes of the cast together, and also maybe help Alicia to further cope.
