‘Glee’ season 5 song spoilers: Darren Criss, Chris Colfer duet to ‘Love is a Battlefield’

Blaine -

Kurt – Blaine fans love it when the two duet on “Glee,” and thanks to that, they’ll probably be thrilled with the audio of “Love is a Battlefield” below.

Our take on the song? It’s cheesy … extremely cheesy. It’s like going to a baseball game, putting your head under one of those nacho cheese machines, and then just drinking it straight. It’s a classic old-school Pat Benatar song performed like Chris Colfer and Darren Criss are still in the era.

Now, let’s differentiate the word cheesy from bad. Just because something is cheesy doesn’t mean it’s awful; it just means that you have to really embrace the performance to love it. We can get behind the over-the-top nature of the song, and we’re sure that when it plays out on the show, it could be worth a few big smiles.

In the end, though, this performance will come down to context, given that this story that Kurt and Blaine are facing in “Tested” is so random and could be cheesy on its own: The freshman 15. Blaine is going to be insecure about his body, and suddenly Kurt is in a position where he has to try to make him feel better about it while he is in the best shape of his entire life.

The one thing that we will continue to say? That these two always perform their duets well, and sound great vocally. It was smart of Ryan Murphy and company to cast people who have the potential of doing some pretty cool things when it comes to harmonies.
