‘New Girl’ season 3, episode 20 reaction: What happened to Nick and Jess?

It has been a little while since we’ve penned a “New Girl” episode review, and one of the reasons for that has been that the show has really started to sputter as of late. Sometimes, getting characters together works, but other times, it just leads to things getting boring. That’s what we were starting to think with Nick and Jess. It’s strange that we want to root for them, but with them together, it was like part of the reason that we loved Nick (his wackiness) was greatly subdued.

Maybe there is a time where these two can actually be together and not take anything away from each other in the process. Unfortunately, that time is not now. The two seemed to break up for good (or at least for now) at the end of the episode, which started off as a very fun, drunken party complete with a game of True American. It was definitely a full-circle moment, given that it was a twisted version of the game when they started to really have some of their first romantic interaction last season.

Someday, we do think that they’ll get back together, mostly because that is what many fans probably want for them in the end. But this does open up a whole lot more storytelling possibilities, and with these two still living together as exes, things could get interesting and very messy again.

The one sad part of this is that there’s not a whole lot of time left for these two to sort things out; but, “New Girl” has been renewed already for a season 4, which means that there will be many more opportunities for this story to be told.
