‘Last Comic Standing’ lands Roseanne Barr, Russell Peters as judges

Last Comic Standing -

Are we excited about the upcoming revival of “Last Comic Standing“? You could say that. Heck, we’re so excited about it that we have a hard time really putting it into words. For the longest time, this was one of our favorite reality competitions on TV, and there was little doubting it. It was more than just entertainment, as it helped to introduce us to some of our favorite comics who we end up watching and enjoying for many years after the fact.

Some of the great people to have appeared on this show include the likes of Doug Benson, Amy Schumer, Myq Kaplan, Lavell Crawford, Gerry Dee, Ralphie May, and Matt Kirshen. It’s a nice collection of people, and when you compare this to the success rate of some other reality competitions, this is actually pretty solid.

But, we’re not just here to talk strictly about the past; instead, we have some more information on the show’s upcoming revival, which will start on NBC Thursday, May 22 (otherwise known as the very day after the end of sweeps). Actor / funnyman J.B. Smoove will be the host for the new edition, and the judges include the lines of Roseanne Barr, Russell Peters (one of our personal favorite comics), and also Keenan Ivory Wayans. The last name is interesting given that Marlon Wayans has an upcoming comedy competition on TBS entitled “Funniest Wins.”

As for the crop of contestants this time around, they were chosen more by talent scouts than the traditional auditions, which we’re slightly bummed about. However, at the same time there is a ton at stake. The winner will have a chance at a half-hour comedy project on NBCUniversal, which is a huge jump forward in their career.
