‘Call the Midwife’ season 3, episode 8 (finale) preview: Is Jessica Raine leaving?

“Call the Midwife” is one of the most-watched shows on British television, and it is also amassed quite an international following to go along with it.

So what do you think about the idea of one of the show’s biggest stars leaving at the end of the season? That is something that raises eyebrows with us, but it also represents a culture change between Britain and America when it comes to the way in which stars are treated. It’s much harder for U.S. stars to get out of their lengthy contracts when joining a show; meanwhile, you have people like Jessica Brown Findlay leaving “Downton Abbey,” and what could be happening now when it comes to Jessica Raine and the aforementioned BBC drama.

Sources tell the Mirror that Sunday will mark Raine’s last appearance on the show, as the actress is eager to pursue film and other offerings in Hollywood. She also had the following to say, but it’s possible that this quote was taken completely out of context to the subject of her leaving:

“I am really up for playing someone a million miles from Jenny, much as I love her. I would like to explore comedy, I want to do more theatre and I definitely want a future in film. I love science-fiction.”

The BBC has has made it pretty much impossible for spoilers on this episode to leak, given that they have not allowed it to screen for critics in advance.

What do you think about the idea of Raine leaving “Call the Midwife” after three seasons, and do you suspect that her brief absence this season was a way to prove that the show could work without her?  Share below!
