There are not too many opportunities that we have right now to get scoop on “Boardwalk Empire,” mostly because the show is so far away still from airing the fifth and final season.
With that being said, though, we are pretty pleased to now report that for at least one upcoming episode, you will see a different side of Nucky’s backstory than you ever have before; namely, you are going to see what he was like before most of the insanity of the modern day ever took place. Per E! News, the show is in the process of casting a younger version of the character played by Steve Buscemi on the series.
What’s the major purpose of this flashback? You’re not necessarily going to learn that much about who Nucky is, mostly because you have a pretty darn good idea about that already. However, at the same time you are going to get a chance to learn a little bit more about how he ended up being who he is in the present, and how messed up things were for him already in his teenage years. It is a little interesting that the show waited until near the end to do this, and it starts to raise the questions again about last rites and a legacy. We’re not necessarily saying that Nucky is going to die at the end of the series; instead, we’re just saying that regardless of if he lives or dies, his past and his present are probably going to be an enormous focus. This is somewhat similar to what happened during the final seasons of both “Dexter” and “Breaking Bad,” which each featured a sort of antihero character in them.
