‘Devious Maids’ season 2 to premiere April 20; Eva Longoria to direct

Lifetime is moving into a new era in some ways in 2014, whether it be with maids or witches in the place of “Army Wives” or someone who takes up a surprising profession in order to take care of their family. (We’re actually not talking about “Breaking Bad” here!)

On Thursday as a part of their TCA presentation, it was revealed that the second season of “Devious Maids,” which picked up a nice little following for itself last year, is going to premiere come Sunday, April 20 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. You know what this means: Another thing to add to the list of a billion things you’re already watching on Sundays!

Also worth noting here is that executive producer Eva Longoria is going to make her directorial debut with this episode. Since finishing / making a boatload of money off of “Desperate Housewives,” Eva has taken on a number of different roles. She has been an architect behind that horrific “Ready for Love” in what should be known as the Voldemort cellar of shows to be never referenced again, but she has found a little more success as a producer elsewhere. Not only that, but she has done some more acting and voiceover work here and there without becoming a series regular on another show.

As for how “Devious Maids” looks to survive the Sunday onslaught, the best thing that it has going for it is that 1) It is not airing at 9:00 p.m., which is when everything else in the known world comes on, and that 2) It is probably not going to be the same sort of audience that watches most of that other Sunday stuff in the first place. This is a fun, juicy sort of show, and really we see its only other threat being “Revenge,” which is moving to 10:00 later this year in ABC’s attempt to find a show with better ratings to follow “Once Upon a Time.”
