‘The Bachelor’ cast spotlight: Meet Juan Pablo Galavis contestant Kat Hurd

Given that we are starting to get pretty close to the start of “The Bachelor’s” premiere on January 6 (or January 5 if you include the pre-show special), there are going to be some days that require us to take on more than one contestant spotlight feature. Today just happens to be one of those days, and we are talking all about someone in Kat Hurd who could be a contender we think may go the distance. Just going from some of the information online about her (and without looking at spoilers, since we don’t like ruining the fun for everyone), she is one of the people who we would consider a possible finalist.

As for the reasons why, let’s just say that she is someone who could have quite a bit in common with Juan Pablo Galavis, and seems to be at least somewhat interested in the process (it’s always hard to be 100% certain without seeing them on TV).

Possible pros – The biggest one here to us is that Kat seems to be largely committed to making her questionnaires online interesting, and didn’t just give one or two-sentence answers to some subjects. It shows that she is taking this reasonably seriously, and that she is willing to open up. Both are important for this show. Also, we know that Juan Pablo loves sports, and he also loves dancing. She is a dancer for the Phoenix Suns. This is a job that can be associated sometimes with wanting fame, and we can’t say whether or not that is what Kat is looking for out of this experience; we just know that Juan Pablo has done a lot of seeking-fame jobs himself, so he won’t be deterred by it.

Possible cons – She seems extremely independent and adventurous, but is she ready to be a stepmom? There’s nothing in her biography at all that suggests that she is great with children, or even has experience around them. Also, we’re slightly concerned that one of her best date memories was getting surprised tickets to a Britney Spears concert. Maybe we’re just not a Britney fan.

Pre-show outlook – Despite these little issues, we’re still saying that Kat goes very far into the competition given that she seems to have an outgoing personality, and is going to be able to engage Juan Pablo and share some of his interests. It’s unclear how much his daughter will be involved in the process, so it is hard to really judge based on that.
